Re: Request under access to information on the environment legislation (Directive 2003/4/EC)and its implementing Statutory Instrument No 133 of 2007.

Register of Extractive Industries.

Dear Sirs;

We note that your Register of Extractive Industries established under the Waste Management (Management of Waste from the Extractive Industries) Regulations 2009 is restricted to Registered Users who must be members of Local Authorities [URL below].

We believe that this register which all Local Authorities must use ‘to register all Extractive Industries within their functional areas' and ‘which allows local authorities to maintain a current register' and ‘provides Local Authorities with a single mechanism to create a national register of Extractive Industries' is information on the environment and must be available to the public under access to information on the environment legislation quoted above.

We would be grateful if you removed the password protection for this Register and thus gave us and the public the access to the information as required by law.
